I have been a lover of the photographic image for as long as I can remember. All genres and styles fascinate me. As a child, I spent rapturous hours poring over images in the art, film and photography books on our family bookshelves (my father was a graphic designer and photographer and my mother an art teacher). 

 

I found joy and creative satisfaction — and invested a lot of pocket money/part-time income — in setting up and taking "arty" and candid photos of family and friends, or documenting places and things that were important to me. These images are now a precious record of my childhood and youth. Though several decades have now passed, the subject matter, enthusiasm and passion has remained the same.

However, nothing really stays the same, does it? Because time rolls on relentlessly, the capturing of a moment — essentially freezing a point in time — is a truly powerful thing. Despite understanding the science of photography, I never cease to find that process — that power — quite miraculous.  

A photograph provides a continued connection to our past, to the people, places and things we love and, most importantly, to our shared humanity. I believe a good photograph makes us feel, remember or experience it all the more potently.
